An Independent Property and Casualty Adjuster is licensed by the state which requires successful completion of a rigorous state authorized course followed by a written State Exam in most States. They are also required to take ongoing continuous education courses to maintain their license. The title typically used for this adjuster is known as an “IA” for the Independent Adjuster in the insurance industry. They are typically self employed and contract their services through an Independent Adjusting Firm who has contracts with various Insurance Companies to handle the claims filed by a policy holder on the Insurance Companies behalf. The IA is paid a percentage of the claim that is assigned to them by the IA firm for which they are working.
